LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A deputy with the Lake County, Florida Sheriff’s Office is thanking an elderly stranger for going the extra mile to make sure law enforcement officials are safe.
David Causey is a deputy with the sheriff’s office. On Saturday night, he was filling up the tank of his patrol SUV when he noticed a man acting strangely nearby.
At first, Causey thought the man might be a threat, but then he realized the an was acting as his guardian.
According to a Facebook post by Causey, the man turned to him and said, “Thank you sir for what you do. I have your back.”
“I just kind of just stood there in shock, that an elderly man was willing to possibly put himself in danger to help me, a complete stranger,” wrote Causey.
The man was later identified as Casey DeLoach, a 73-year-old Army Veteran.
DeLoach says he has been standing guard for law enforcement officers at gas stations for years, after a Texas deputy was shot in killed in 2015 while pumping gas.
